The tranquil town on the eastern shore appeals to visitors due to its timeless romantic charm. The lasting impression of the place is obtained when arriving by boat. From a distance the mighty Scaligero castle is visible and gives onlookers an idea of how Antonio della Scala must once have governed this place. The foundation walls date back to Roman times, from which also dates the old name of the Lake, Benacus, a name still to be found in the place name Torri del Benacus. Today the castle houses a folklore museum worth seeing. In the picturesque small lanes of the town centre life is tranquil and easy going, and the long walkway invites you to stroll along. The oval shaped harbour reaches up to the old town. With its colourful fishing boats swinging back and forth like pearls strung together on a chain, the harbour becomes on idyllic and peaceful spot to relax.
