In the summer of 1976 the starting signal fell in the Bay of Val di Sogno in Malcesine: the Stickl Surfcamp opened and thus introduced windsurf sport in Italy. The Bay of Val di Sogno is commonly recognized as the best spot for beginners on Lake Garda. While in Torbole the fun and enjoyment of surfing for children and beginners is put to an end after a couple of hours by unfavourable, gusty and offshore winds, as the famous Ora with a wind force of 4-5 forces them to be mere spectators, beginners surf in Sportcamp Stickl even in the afternoon for some hours, free of charge and with the entire equipment on hire.
Children from 7 years onwards feel safer in the sheltered bay than on the open water. For the teachers, too, lessons can be run in a much safer and more effective way. The equipment, boards, sails, wetsuits and safety jackets are adjusted to the needs of children aged 7-12.
F-courses and beginners of fun board surfing are instructed either during strong winds in the morning off the sheltered bay or on the opposite side of the lake, in Campione, while the Ora is blowing in the afternoon. Participants and boards are taken to the starting places with the service-boat.
