Restaurant
Restaurant „La Baita“ is hidden in the hilly hinterland of Caprino Veronese. It is a rustic mountain hut in the vicinity of Monte Baldo and only 15 minutes from Lake Garda. From here one can overlook Garda and enjoy a nice view of the peninsular of Sirmione, which, with its long and pointed shape, reaches out into lake. With a view like this the culinary delights on offer virtually melt in one’s mouth.
Cuisine
Inspired by the harsh mountainous region, the restaurant’s menu is dominated by typical local dishes. Adhering to a particular Italian tradition host Roberto Panizzolo and his wife Alida dedicate themselves with family-commitment to the well-being of their guests. Immediately on arrival a good house wine is brought to the table, there is the choice of bianco or rosso. This is followed by good, substantial cooking, which silences a rumbling stomach: in simple baskets the home-made salami is served in one large piece and everybody is invited to cut off a slice or two. But this in only a foretaste of the food that is to follow. Antipasti and bruschette are lovingly prepared with fresh ingredients and herbs of the season. It goes without saying that the pasta is home-made. All, guests have to do is to make a choice between the three different types on offer. Or they might prefer the juicy meat which comes directly from the barbeque onto one’s plate. Daughters Eleonora and Beatrice take care of the dessert and serve cakes and gateau of their own recipes.
Opening times
The restaurant is open all year. Merely from November to February it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Groups
Larger groups and families find plenty of room in the spacious dining room or on ale benches. In summer up here it is a few degrees fresher than down by the lake. Therefore a lot of visitors make use of the large meadow for family outings. After the meal children can romp about in the playground, which belongs to the restaurant. They can play mini-golf or football. Even our four-legged friends find plenty of space to exercise and are served in a special "dog-trattoria".
Prices for main courses
Prices for the sumptuous meals are very moderate. And completely free of charge is the spectacular view of the mountain scenery. Its agreeable effect on one’s mood can not be paid for.
Surroundings
Caprino Veronese reaches as far as the altitude of Monte Baldo. Every Saturday morning a large weekly street market attracts many visitors. In nearby Spiazzi the well-known place of pilgrimage Madonna della Corona is located, a place one has to have seen once in one’s life: its position at a dizzy height is spectacular. The church is built into a rock face which drops down vertically. Initially, monks who belonged to the cloister of San Zeno of Verona lived here, 1434 the Santuario passed into the hands of the Order of the Knights of Malta. This place of pilgrimage can be reached via the rural road from Caprino. |
