At the top end of the peninsular of Sirmione the ruins of one of the largest Roman villas from the 2nd century, the so called “Grotte di Catullo”, can be admired. Elaborate remains of frescos and beautiful mosaics bear witness of the former splendid furnishings of this estate. The “Grotte” can be visited from Tuesdays to Sundays. The shore line directly below the ruins consists of flat slabs of limestone which extend far into Lake Garda. The water shimmers in a fascinating turquoise colour and numerous beautiful spots invite you to have a swim.
